Piano, guitar, and voice lessons at Tamminga Music Studio are all about learning through fun.
Our program focuses on nurturing kids’ innate love of music. What better way than to integrate friendships, games, incentives, and piano parties into the program? Our sequential and detailed curriculum caters to the needs of each student, providing a well-rounded musical education and a solid foundation in which to grow.

Family Music
Ages 6 months – 5

“Sing with Me, Dance with Me, Play with Me, Clap with Me…” You and your toddler will sing, dance, listen, play simple rhythm instruments and participate in fun finger plays. We explore movement and sound through lots of playing to cater to our active and curious toddlers! Activities channel toddlers’ energy productively, facilitate expression of feelings as well as develop listening skills and musical aptitude. (30-35 minute class with parent)

Play Time
(Ages 3 – 4)

Play Time is our premier Preschool Music class! This class combines the basic fundamentals of music with a playful introduction to piano. Musical terms, rhythm and tempo, dynamics, steady beat and ear-training are covered through games, instrument play and piano time! These musical concepts also reinforce letters, numbers and basic math skills. Your child’s love of music will grow as he/she participates in an exciting environment of learning, achievement and FUN! (40 minute class – drop-off class)

Preparatory Piano I & II
(Ages 4 – 10)

Preparatory Piano I: You will love this piano program for your child! Our fun-loving approach to musical literacy will excite and encourage your child to explore and learn to play the piano. This class includes singing, creative and structured movement, fun games, instruments, ensemble work, ear-training and guided listening. Reading music begins! Most importantly, this class focuses on developing healthy movement and technique at an early age.

Preparatory Piano II: This unique group program was designed to introduce piano study in a fun and exciting way! Students will develop musical aptitude through ear training activities, singing, movement, games and, of course, piano playing! The basics of proper technique at the piano is emphasized. Music history, improvisation and composition activities are also covered in class/home assignments. Incentives are integrated into the program to keep students motivated and build confidence in them as they receive recognition for their progress. This introductory method lays the groundwork for success in formal piano study. Bring your imaginations!

Our preparatory piano program offers two options…
*Prep Piano Classes: 45 minute class with up to 8 students
*Semi-Private Group: 30 minute lesson with up to 4 students

Preparatory Guitar I & II
(Ages 3 – 10)

Preparatory Guitar I: Any student may join. Students will be grouped according to age and ability.

Preparatory Guitar II: Student must successfully complete level 1 in order to enroll in the level 2 class. If your child is a new non-beginner, teacher approval is required.

This is no ordinary guitar class! Our unique curriculum offers…

• Training in acoustic & electric guitar
• Focus on the fundamentals of music
• Proper technique that builds finger dexterity and strengthens fingers
• Rhythm proficiency through strum patterns and rhythm games – (Preparatory Guitar II students will start to explore finger picking rhythms and intermediate techniques.)
• Weekly theory activities that focus on intervals and chord analysis
• Ear training to lay the foundation for learning to figure out songs on your own
• Introductory improvisation – (Preparatory Guitar II students will learn the basics of soloing and lead guitar playing.)
• Most importantly: Fun and upbeat lessons with great teachers… Your child will look forward to each weekly class and be excited about his/her progress!

Our voice program is perfect for kids who love to sing! Lessons consist of FUN with a focus on healthy technique. Students will also learn how to…

• Match pitch.
• Manage breathing.
• Develop a good tone.
• Use their skills in a solo or ensemble setting, including choir and rock band setting.

More complex techniques, such as register blending, are introduced as students advance through the program.

Ear-training, voice games, rhythm activities, and fun exercises keep this program packed full of learning and fun!
